New program offers optional Service Line Protection through a partnership with SLWA! Read on for more information and a program FAQ.

We have partnered with Service Line Warranties of America (SLWA), an independent company that offers optional protection plans for the water and sewer service lines that connect your home, interior plumbing and drains to our systems. This program is designed to help homeowners prepare for the cost and inconvenience of a potential home repair emergency.

Understanding Your Responsibility

Many residents are not aware that they are responsible for the maintenance and repair of the water and sewer lines on their property that connect their homes to our systems. These repairs are not covered by Borough of Indiana, and most basic homeowners insurance policies do not cover repairs needed due to normal wear-and-tear.

An Optional Solution

To assist homeowners, we have partnered with SLWA to make available voluntary service plans. Key features of the program include:

  • No Cost to Borough of Indiana: The program is offered at no cost to Borough of Indiana, and no public funds are used to administer it.

  • Voluntary Enrollment: Participation is completely optional. We are making these plans available as a potential solution for residents. Declining to enroll in the program will not affect your utility service.

  • Convenient Service: Plan holders have access to a 24-hour repair hotline to schedule a covered repair. SLWA will dispatch a local, reliable contractor to handle your covered repair.

  • No Deductibles: The plans from SLWA have no deductible or service fees on covered repairs, and repairs are guaranteed for one year.

We encourage you to review both your homeowners insurance and the service plan details to determine if a plan from SLWA is a good choice for your household. You may also want to check with your homeowners insurance provider to see if similar coverage is available.

Program FAQ:

  1. What is the SLWA program? It's an optional repair program for homeowners offered through a partnership between Borough of Indiana and SLWA, an independent company. It allows homeowners to purchase service plans that cover the cost and inconvenience of repairs to their exterior water and sewer service lines and interior plumbing and drains.

  2. Why did Borough of Indiana partner with SLWA? We've partnered with SLWA to provide an optional solution for homeowners to be prepared in case they face expensive, unexpected repairs to their service lines and interior plumbing and drains. This program educates residents about their responsibility for these lines and offers a way to prepare for potential issues. The partnership also ensures that any covered repairs are performed to code by reliable local contractors.

  3. Is this program mandatory for homeowners? No, the program is completely voluntary. Our customers are under no obligation to enroll and declining to enroll will not impact their utility service. We are simply making them aware that this optional service is available.

  4. Are public funds being used for this program? No. No public funds, tax dollars or Borough of Indiana funds are used to promote or administer the SLWA program. It is offered at no cost to Borough of Indiana.

  5. How does a homeowner use the service? If a homeowner with a plan from SLWA experiences a covered issue, they can call SLWA's 24/7 repair hotline to schedule a repair. SLWA then dispatches a local, reliable contractor to handle the covered repair.

  6. What do the plans cover? Plans are available for the exterior water service line and the exterior sewer/septic line on the homeowner's property and the interior plumbing and drains. These service lines are the lines that are the homeowner's responsibility to maintain.

  7. Doesn't homeowners insurance cover these repairs? Typically, no. Most basic homeowners insurance policies do not cover the cost of repairing or replacing service lines or interior plumbing and drains due to normal wear-and-tear. The plans from SLWA are designed to help homeowners with this type of coverage. Homeowners should always be encouraged to check their specific insurance policy before deciding.

  8. Who performs the repairs? Repairs are performed by local, reliable contractors from SLWA's network. This keeps service-related spending within our local economy.

  9. What should I tell a homeowner who asks about the mailings? You can inform them that Borough of Indiana has partnered with SLWA to offer these optional plans. The use of our logo on the mailings is to confirm that the program is legitimate. Reiterate that the program is voluntary and is administered by SLWA, not Borough of Indiana.

  10. Why is Borough of Indiana involved if SLWA manages the program? Our involvement ensures that our residents have access to a reliable service. It helps reduce homeowner frustration over unexpected repair costs, conserves water by encouraging timely repairs and provides an educational benefit to the community regarding service line responsibility.

  11. Where should I direct homeowners who have questions? All inquiries, including questions about coverage, cost and enrollment, should be directed to SLWA. Our role is to make the program available, but SLWA is the administrator and handles all program-specific inquiries. Homeowners can contact SLWA by calling 1-844-257-8795 or visiting www.slwofa.com to learn more about the program.
