Code Department Manager

The Codes Department Manager is a non-union mid-management /supervisory position and reports directly to the Manager or his/her designee. The incumbent shall be responsible for and participate in the operational functions of and serve as the administrative officer for the Codes Department.

Candidates should possess, at a minimum, the following skills, abilities and qualifications:

  • Minimum of Associates degree or equivalent level of education in related field, or a high school diploma and five (5) years of experience.

  • Must possess a valid PA driver 's license, be able to drive, and must have an insurable driving record.

  • Must possess plumbing certification category 21, electrical certification category 11 and other PA Dept. of Labor and Industry Uniform Construction Code certifications are preferred.

Substitute Crossing Guard (Part-Time)

The Indiana Borough Police Department and Indiana Area School District are accepting applications for the position of Substitute Crossing Guard. There is currently a need for two (2) positions to be filled. 

 

Uniforms and equipment are provided as is training with emphasis on the safety and welfare of children enroute to and from school. A successful background check is required before final employment. Rate of pay and qualifications can be found in the link below:

Building Custodian (Part-Time)

The Building Custodian is a union position (part time) selected by the Manager in accordance with the hiring provisions outlined in the  collective bargaining agreement and the guidelines set forth in the personnel policy manual. The Building Custodian is responsible for the general cleaning and maintenance of borough facilities.

Minimum Qualifications:

•    Must have a high school diploma or equivalency.
•    Must possess a valid PA driver's license, be able to drive, and must have an insurable driving record.

The Building Custodian shall be able to perform the following physical tasks:

• Climb ladders and stairs or other equipment designed to reach high spaces
• Work in small cramped spaces and confined areas, e.g. elevator, closet, windowless space
• Operate electrical and mechanical tools; work with and around chemicals, gases & other toxic or dangerous substances using only normal protective equipment
• Basic knowledge of related construction, electrical and mechanical systems
• Ability to reach, stand, kneel, and bend for prolonged periods
• Ability to lift and maneuver 50 lb waist high repetitively and ability to team lift and maneuver with and without assisting equipment, e.g. dollies
• Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
• Subject to a ninety-day (90) qualification period

Rate of Pay: $11.56 per hour

Shift: Days and hours as scheduled

Hours: Part-time hours as assigned by supervisor

Building Maintenance Worker (Part-Time)

The Building Maintenance Worker position is a part-time non-supervisory union position. The employee will perform manual tasks in the maintenance, construction and repair of Borough facilities and some seasonal outdoor work (mowing, snow removal).

 

Assignments are supervised and outlined by the public Works Director who will delegate duties and inspect the progress of work completed. Employees are expected to exercise judgment in safety, task preparation and customer service.


Minimum Qualifications:
• Must have a high school diploma or equivalency.
• Must possess a valid PA driver’s license, be able to drive, and must have an insurable driving record.
• Basic knowledge of related construction, electrical and mechanical systems.
• Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.


Rate of Pay: $11.56 per hour


Shift: Monday through Friday


Hours: Part-time hours as assigned by supervisor

Wastewater Plant Operator

The Wastewater Plant Operator is a non-supervisory union position. The incumbent performs technical and lead work in the operation and maintenance of the Wastewater Treatment Plant, including making process control decisions.

 

Candidates should possess a high level of technical knowledge, the ability to independently oversee shift operations, and the ability to coordinate the duties of the Wastewater Plant Worker. Possession and posting of a Class A, 1 PA D.E.P Wastewater Treatment Plant Certification and a valid PA Class B, CDL driver's license are required.

Police Officer

Persons making application for the position of Police Officer must meet the eligibility requirements outlined in the Indiana Borough Civil Service regulations.  A short application is used to determine eligibility for Civil Service entry level testing.  The short application is available at the police station or can be downloaded and printed from this site, see below.

The minimum requirements for eligibility are outlined on the cover page of the application form. Applications received on or before April 15 each year will be reviewed for the June testing period (testing periods subject to change).  All applicants will be notified of their eligibility status and eligible applicants will be invited to participate in the testing process, which includes an agility test, written examination and an oral examination.  Applications received after April 15 will be held until the next testing period the following year.

Successful candidates in the Civil Service testing process will be placed on an eligibility list, which is valid for one year.  Candidates considered for employment will complete the full employment application and will undergo a background investigation.
