Public Works
The Indiana Borough Public Works Department is in charge of maintaining the streets, leaf collection, public owned property, and the stormwater and sewage system maintenance. The department has a staff of 8 full time employees and one part-time maintenance employee who maintain the Community Center building, public parks, and the Borough offices.
The department maintains all facets of street repairs and maintenance, such as patching potholes, paving streets, snow removal, street sweeping, etc. The department has a fleet of 7 trucks equipped with snow removal equipment and a backhoe. Most all vehicle maintenance is performed “in house”. The crew also performs paving on smaller alleys in addition to our annual contract paving.
Storm system catch basin repair is an ongoing project consisting of a minimum of 70 basins rebuilt annually.

Fun Facts:
Our Public Works construction crew is tasked with plowing approximately 38 miles of 'snow lanes' each time it snows. These workers often come to work in the middle of the night to get ahead of the snow storms. As snow accumulates, or as the day goes on, the plow crews will plow the same roads 3-4 times, by the end of one day of plowing, they can accumulate up to 100 plowed miles!
