One-Hour Grace Period for Parking Meters to Expire 10/1

Indiana Borough’s Parking Department modified its parking policy on March 19th to provide a one-hour grace period of free parking at metered spaces. The modified policy was intended to enable shoppers and others doing business in our community ample time for pick up and short-duration visits during the red and yellow phases of the Governor’s re-opening plan.

As the County transitioned into the green phase, Borough Council voted at their June 2020 meeting to amend Resolution 2010-R17. This amendment waived fees to enabled local restaurants to add additional outdoor dining services to their establishments.

Understanding that extending outdoor dining space could potentially conflict with an establishment’s parking capacity, the Parking Department began providing vouchers to local businesses for free parking in the Parking Garage located on 650 Water Street.

Effective on October 1st, the one-hour grace period for metered parking will expire and regular parking enforcement will resume. We thank community partners Downtown Indiana, Indiana County Chamber of Commerce, and the Indiana County Tourist Bureau for collaborating with us on this policy modification.

Local businesses can still receive parking vouchers and are encouraged to contact the Parking Department if interested in obtaining parking vouchers.
